I photographed this bird in January 2018, in a pond in front of our home in Jabalpur. It's been in my folder for a long time as White-breasted Waterhen (जलमुर्गी, डौक).  Today I saw a post by a fellow birder, photographer, and forest officer Sanjib and I immediately recalled these clicks. Thanks, Sanjib for helping me identify Cotton pygmy goose or Cotton teal (गिर्री, गिरगिर्रा) - Nettapus coromandelianus.  Cotton pygmy goose or Cotton teal are the smallest waterfowl on earth, the small individual could be less than 200 gms and 8 inches.

I have been photographing, watching and observing   Common Kingfisher छोटा किलकिला, राम चिरैया, शरीफन, निता मछराला (Alcedo atthis)   for almost 8 years now. Over this time I have learned a few facts, observed some interesting behavior, and read a lot. Both sexes of  Common Kingfisher  look very similar, females are slightly smaller than males.
