Birds Around Me 0177 - Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus)
Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus) is the largest and darkest pipit, almost always seen along rocky coasts; adapted well around humans and is fairly approachable. Dark overall, underparts usually dirty brown with diffused streaks. Outer feathers are smoky white (pure white in other pipits), and the bill is black. Both sexes are similar, the juvenile is also similar to an adult.
In winter a little more widespread but Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus) normally breeds along rocky shores. Separated from Tree and Meadow Pipits by slightly larger size, drab plumage, grey-white outer tail feathers, and dark brown legs (pink in Tree and Meadow Pipits).
